Ledges 50th Anniversary Party - A Huge Success!

On Saturday, July 31st, 2004 we celebrated the Ledges 50th anniversary. The activities for the day included a golf outing, in which 80 golfers participated. There was swimming at the Ledges Pool, a magic show for the children, live entertainment, a bonfire for roasting marshmallows, and a pig roast with all the trimmings. The weather couldn't have been better, and mother nature provided an awesome sight as a blue moon appeared on the eastern horizon. It's orange glow made a breathtaking picture. We had a total of 287 people in attendance at the party. It was great to see families and friends enjoying each other's company. The guest list included Al and Elizabeth Bowen's two daughters Lynn Eichman and Barbara Gunderson and their families. Both Lynn and Barb shared a few stories about the period when their parents were developing the Ledges. They were given a tour of the golf course, and the home which was once belonged to their parents. Dale Seberling, one of the founders of the Ledges Property Owners' Association and also the Ledges Pool, shared a few stories dear to his heart.

I have received many thank you notes and phone calls, but without the help of the following people the party would not have been such a huge success. Be sure to thank Ledges Property Owners' Association Board Members Jim Benkovich, Fern Nelson, Chuck Christiansen, Russ Johnson, Mike Nelson, Larry Fitzpatick, Carol Norregaard, Dave Tackes, Susan Pilgrim, Dave Hipp, Greg Otwell and Kathy Zant. We thank Mike Durand and the staff of the Winnebago County Forest Preserve for their support of the golf outing. Starter Ray Benjamin got everyone out on the golf course on time. A special thanks to the Ledges Pool Board and their president Vicki Anderson for their support of the event. Kudos to Bob Young and his staff of lifeguards for the great job they did in making the event safe for our families. Also the following people helped with the day's activities: Ken and Jackie O'Brien, Sandy Tackes, Mary Lou Fitzpatick, Frank Nelson, John Arntzen, Paul Swanberg, Mike, Cindy and Will Ilseman, Reid and Kathi Anderson, Mark Courchane, Aurie Chapman, Bob Young, Dennis Burke, and George Hamblin.

I want to thank the following businesses for the great items they provided for the raffle and for all the support they gave to the Ledges Property Owners' Association throughout the year: Sabrosa Mexican Restaurant, American Family - Melodi Broege Agency, Clarks Fine Art, Main Street Meats, The Hoffman Clubhouse Restaurant, EZ Travel Agency, The Clubhouse Miniature Golf and Ice Cream Parlor, Village Emporium, The Golf Shack, and Gateway Bank.

A special thanks to Jerry Cox for the great magic show he provided and to The Little Somebodys for the music and entertainment. Good luck to all of the band members as they return to college for another year. A big thank you to Bob Prossor and Rich Johnson and their staff from the Hoffman House Restaurant for the fabulous pig roast that they provided. The Ledges Property Owners' Association for many years had a annual pig roast, but because of low attendance the LPOA hasn't hosted a pig roast in many years. Because of many positive comments, the board feels we should host a pig roast again next year. The LPOA board is open to all suggestions for continuing this event on a yearly bases. Let us know what you think! Check your LPOA newsletter or visit our web site at "ledgescommunity.org" for other upcoming LPOA events. Thanks for your support!
