Summer Party & Golf Outing August 15, 2009

The golf outing and picnic are back! The LPOA is once again putting together a golf outing and picnic scheduled for Saturday, August 15th at the Ledges Golf Club and Pool. The event is open to all residents of the Ledges community and their guests.
Party Information: The picnic will start at 5 pm, with access to the pool beginning at 7 pm. The cost for the picnic this year is $12, $14 for non-LPOA members, and $8 for children ages 6-13. Children under 6 are free. Chicken, brats, beans, salad, dessert and various drinks will be available. Alcoholic beverages will be sold separately at the Ledges clubhouse. Wristbands will be issued this year in lieu of tickets, and will be handed out at the event for those who have paid in advance.
Golf Information: Entry in the golf outing is $7 per golfer, plus greens fees. If you are a season pass holder, a tee time before 12 pm will incur a $7 fee – a great time to use up part of the $50 gift card you received from the Winnebago County Forest Preserve Golf Courses! Tee times will be available between 10 am and 12:50 pm. Greens fees for non-pass holders are $24. Sharing a golf cart is $10/rider. It’s a scramble format with prizes going to the players in the top 3 foursomes. Rumor has it the 3-foot “gimme string” will be in effect this year. Look for longest drive and closest to the pin contests on certain holes as well.
Registration Information: To ensure arrangements are made to accommodate everyone, the deadline to register for the picnic and or golf outing is July 31st. To register contact LPOA president Gary Acaley at 815-389-9087. If you would like to participate in the golf outing, please contact LPOA secretary Chris Hankins at ctadhankins@gmail.com (preferred) or 847-331-2756 to request a tee time. Mark the date on your calendars and make a day of it with your friends and neighbors in the Ledges! We need volunteers for a variety of things from setup to cleanup. If you are interested in helping out, give Gary Acaley a call at 815-389-9087.

Ledges Garden Walk

The LPOA is hoping to revive the garden walk tradition, but it looks like we’ll be aiming more toward the summer of 2010. If you know of a garden and a willing neighbor to share it with area residents, feel free to contact any LPOA board member. We’ll be gathering ideas for next year’s walk.

Environmental Cleanup

Given the success of last fall’s toxic materials cleanup, we’ll again be providing a drop-off this fall. The date has yet to be set, but be on the lookout for information in the next newsletter or at ledges.org. Even with the donated use of a truck from Ack-Ack Nursery last fall, Chris Hankins and Mark Anderson had to turn away dozens of vehicles hoping to get rid of waste materials. And we also learned a valuable lesson about how much hazardous waste the disposal center can handle at one time. This fall we’ll be making special arrangements to accommodate the large amount we’ll be expecting. We had no idea you all were saving up so much hazardous waste!
In the meantime, Ledges residents can take their own hazardous household waste to the Hazardous Waste Disposal Center at 3333 Kishwaukee St. in Rockford Saturdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays 12 p.m. (noon) to 4 p.m., excluding holidays. Aerosols, corrosives, oxidizers, solvents, oil-based and latex paints, waste oils, pesticides, batteries, fluorescent lamps, and insulin disposal service will be accepted. Radioactive waste, compressed gas, and explosives will not be accepted.
Also note that most quick-lube oil centers will recycle your used motor oil, including Hilgarts on South Main in Roscoe.

Condolences

Our condolences to board member Fern Nelson on the passing of her husband Frank S. Nelson on March 24th. Longtime Ledges resident, Frank never met a person or animal that he didn’t like. He was quick with a smile and laugh and will be truly missed by those of us that were lucky enough to call him friend.

Ledges community garage sale

Take advantage of the Ledges community garage sale. The community sale will take place the first or second week in August, before school resumes. Cost will be determined by number of participants to cover advertising expenses. Further details will be provided upon response. If you are interested, please contact Lori Capezio at lulrich@hotmail.com

Easter Egg Hunt Recap

Many thanks to all of the participants that made this year’s event another great LPOA outing! Although the weather was a little chilly the event was well received. The Easter Bunny was present to greet the children and assist in the egg hunt. Amidst the sounds of laughter, the children quickly gathered all of the hidden eggs. All attending also enjoyed the light refreshments provided by the LPOA board. We hope to see you all again next year!
