This year's return of the Ledges Golf Outing proved to be a success, and we look forward to growing the number of golfers in 2010.
Those who played were not only treated to some beautiful summer golf weather, but also a complimentary burger or hot dog after the round. Prizes from the Golf Shack for longest putt, longest drive and closest to the pin included golf umbrellas, golf tote bag, golf balls and 2 sets of tickets to the Solheim Cup professional women's golf tournament held later that week at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, IL.
Start making plans to get your foursome together for next year's outing and get in on the fun!
Our attempt at reviving the annual picnic did not get off the ground this year, but board members are working hard to figure out what may have contributed to the low number of people signing up. We are planning to combine the golf outing with a picnic and pool party next year so if you have any suggestions for ways we can make the picnic a success please don't hesitate to contact one of the board members with your ideas. Their contact information is printed in your Ledges phone directory.
The LPOA will again be offering a household hazardous waste clean up day this fall on Saturday, October 24 th . The overwhelming response to last year's project was an indicator of just how much nasty stuff is being kept in peoples' homes! As you begin to set aside those household waste items here are some things to keep in mind. Any waste motor oil can be dropped off during business hours at most quick-lube businesses or auto shops. Most will ask you to verify that the oil is not mixed with anything else, and then they can dispose of the waste oil for you. There's no need to keep saving it up! Also, you can dispose of small latex paint leftovers by opening the cans, letting them dry completely and then disposing of them along with your regular trash.
Motor oil and paint cans accounted for a massive amount of waste collected last year, and also resulted in us having to turn many cars away that morning so please help us out by following these tips! Look for us parked in the lot near Ledgewood School starting at 9 am that day, and remember to mark your containers so we know what's in them. Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful is also hosting another metal and electronics drive on October 3 rd in Machesney Park.
If you have a refrigerator, freezer, dehumidifier, air conditioner, propane tank or computer monitor you need to get rid of, call KNIB at 815-637-1343 for details.
Rock Energy Cooperative has learned that some members in northern Illinois have received telephone calls from someone claiming to be a ComEd representative who then requests their credit card information and Social Security number.
“Rock Energy will never call members to request this type of information”, CEO Shane Larson said. “If you receive a call like this, please hang up and immediately call your local police department to report this scam.”
In one instance, the caller said service would be disconnected if the member did not provide credit card information. In another call, a member was told that lower rates were available from ComEd, but the member needed to provide credit card information. Unlike phone companies, utility providers have a defined service territory and do not solicit consumers to switch services.
