The annual picnic and golf outing at the Ledges Golf Club and Pool has been set for August 14 th , so mark your calendars and get ready for a day of fun!
We hope to build on last year's turnout on the golf course with the usual prizes and contests out on the course. Start putting your foursome together and get ready to play.
Look for signs going up soon around town and at the Ledges Golf Course with sign-up details. If you have any questions, or just want to get an early bid on a tee time, call outing coordinator Chris Hankins at 847-331-2756.
We're also making some changes to the format of the picnic from last year. We plan to join up with members of the Ledges Pool for the picnic, and Main Street Meats in Roscoe will provide great food and drinks for the party.
Cost for this year's picnic is $8 for adults (13 and older), $5 for kids and free for 5 and under. The maximum charge per family will be $25. The menu will include chicken sandwiches, brats, salad, baked beans, cookies and drink options.
Plan to make an evening of it poolside as we enjoy tunes from a local DJ and hopefully some great summer weather! Look for sign-up info in the next newsletter or at ledges.org.
I didn't receive much response to have the community sale in the spring but I did have some interest from homeowners to have another one in the late summer. Last year's 1st annual Ledges Community Garage Sale was a success. The tentative dates are August 12, 13 & 14 , before the start of the new school year.
There will be a small fee for each participating household that will be applied towards placing the ad in the local newspapers as we did last year. I will also place an ad on Craigslist. I will supply each residence with a copy of a map indicating the locations of the sales and a list of items that will be sold at each location. Everyone is responsible for their own signs and making copies of the maps to hand out. Please email Lori Capezio at lulrich@hotmail.com if you are interested.
The offices of the Illinois Secretary of State have moved to their new permanent home in the Roscoe Village Hall building. If you haven't seen the new facility, stop by and take a look!
If you've been looking for a good outlet for some used furniture or other items around your house, there are a couple of good options that will help you clear some space and also help others.
ShareStuff is a low-cost retail store operated by Heartland Community Church in Rockford. They accept donations of gently-used furniture and in turn offer the pieces at a huge discount to those who need it. The store is located next to the church at the corner of Alpine and Newburg Roads in Rockford. For more information contact Sharestuff at 815- 316-7610.
There's also a great online resource called freecycle.org . If you sign up at the site and join the group, you can post ads for anything you would like to give away for free.
It's an online community of people sharing what they don't need anymore. You can browse the lists as well to see if somebody else's unwanted item just might be your next treasure. Whether it's an old toaster you don't use anymore or an older washing machine taking up space in your garage, it's a great way to hook up with somebody who needs what you don't anymore.
The LPOA tries to keep track of local obituaries so we know which of our neighbors and friends have passed. Occasionally we get info from LPOA members or from word of mouth, but we don't have the ability to keep tabs on everyone, as we would like. If you have any information to share please contact a member of the LPOA board – phone numbers can be found at the front of your Ledges phone directory.

Even the rain and chilly temperatures couldn't keep the Easter bunny away again this year.
We had a decent turnout of kids, and adults to help celebrate the annual hunt at the Ledgewood playground. We had to abandon the hunt on the playground itself because of the slippery conditions, but the kids didn't seem to mind the ease of finding the eggs out on the open field!
Thanks to everyone who braved the elements to come out – we'll see you next April!
